Juhayna releases its sustainability report to showcase its most prominent activities in achieving sustainable development

 

Cairo, 7^TH of November 2022 – Juhayna Food Industries has issued its third sustainability report for the 5^th year in a row, which highlights the company’s most prominent milestones in sustainable development over the past year 2020-2021, and its impact on its stakeholders including the company’s staff, the local community, as well as the farmers and the suppliers reaching the end consumers.

The report’s main focus is to highlight the most significant issues tackled by the company through its development programs and practices, which included water resource management, employee rights, and food safety, responsible communication, and many other issues. The report has also featured the most imperative practices adopted by the company in each of these areas, with the aim of creating shared value.

In this context, Passant Fouad, Director of External Communications at Juhayna, said: “We are pleased to release our third sustainability report, which reflects the tremendous efforts exerted by the company during the past year to accentuate its position as a major supporter of green economy and social responsibility. Our efforts in this regard have resulted in the launch of many promising initiatives during the past year, as well as the completion of several other initiatives we previously launched to protect the environment and preserve its resources, in addition to leaving a positive and sustainable impact on the lives of many individuals.”

Fouad also explained that many of the projects and initiatives launched by the company achieved tangible results, which enabled those projects to move to more advanced and in-depth stages. Having said that, the company continued to invest in the “Kafaa” program network in order to develop dairy farms and update its operations, through providing financial support to farmers in the form of in-advance capital to develop their farms, purchase cows, and increase productivity. She also added that the company is always keen to invest in all physical infrastructure required to support the development of dairy farming and markets.

She continued “Juhayna was able last year to include “Al-Enmaa” farm as the first Egyptian farm on the white list of the National Food Safety Authority, which enabled the company to obtain a set of ISO certificates for quality and efficiency. On the other hand, the company also provided incentive programs that encourage employees to bring their ideas to the table in support of its cost-saving and optimization initiatives.”

Fouad added that the company adopts various development practices in various fields, including waste management, through which the company aims to transform its products to be 100% recyclable by 2030. As a step towards achieving this goal, Juhayna upgraded Rayeb plastic caps to environmentally friendly, plant-based caps made of sugarcane and certified to Bunsucro standards. Juhayna has also made contributions in terms of water conservation, as it aims to reduce water wastage by 5% annually, by adopting advanced water management systems and reusing it in the manufacturing process, as well as providing its farms with the most advanced irrigation technologies to control water consumption. Regarding the company’s emissions, Juhayna’s activities includes careful monitoring of the percentage of emissions generated by the various sectors of the company, in an effort to reduce its emissions by 31.8% by 2026 through several steps, including the installation of LED lights across our plants to tackle high electricity consumption bulbs and the adoption of rations that are specifically designed to reduce these emissions without compromising the wellbeing of the herd.

It is worth noting that Juhayna launched its first version of sustainability report in 2017 as a step that demonstrates its commitment to global guidelines and international agendas, as the company remains a devout member of the UNGC and contributes to the UNSDGs responsible consumption and production, preserving clean water and maintaining health and wellbeing.
